At sites where machine planting is not feasible due to accessibility, obstacles or other factors, it is possible to plant flower bulbs and/or perennials by hand instead. Lubbe & Sons  offers hand planting of flower bulbs or bulb mixes as a service to its clients. Our perennials are always planted by hand. 

Community involvement in hand planting of flower bulbs

Planting by hand can also provide a fun activity as part of a community participation project. In this way, residents gain a better understanding of the local environment and therefore greater appreciation of the public space. Our team has taken part in many projects where the public was also involved. Lubbe & Sons can assist you in setting up and implementing community involvement projects.

For example:

  • raising awareness
  • local communication with citizens and residents
  • civic participation, when citizens provide advice and supervision of planting
  • advice on maintenance to be carried out by citizens

Planting municipal roundabouts

A green and blooming roundabout in a public space is a lovely calling card for any city or ??
municipality. Lubbe & Sons designs, plants and maintains many of such roundabouts across the Netherlands. Each design takes the actual line of sight for traffic participants into account when choosing plants of different heights. The planting must occur safely, of course, but should also minimise nuisance to traffic as much as possible. For the most part, the plants used on roundabouts are perennials, although flower bulb mixes may be buried in the soil as well. This planting on roundabouts is generally done by hand.
